Sketching and painting have always been my creative output back as a kid. But when I got exposed to advertising, everything changed. It had taken up every ounce of my creativity making me see a different perspective. Then one cool afternoon and decades of corporate advertising work after, I found myself musing with my kids’ coloring materials and creating a landscape.

So it began on that one fine afternoon, the urge to paint a canopy of trees, colorful botanicals, and images of travel memories using my kids’ colored pens and watercolor. It was then that I realized I’m back to my first love.

Today, painting (using my materials and tools 😃) has become a mood setter and my me-time. From single-stemmed flowers to full blooms, from travel landscapes to religious impressions, from themed images to visual stories in watercolor, pen & ink.

“Batok” also known as tattoo by many of our ethnic groups across our archipelago. Batok for women is an alignment with life’s essentials: family, community, God and His creations.

“Perlas” celebrates women who dive far deep for pearls. There is so much of a woman’s gut and courage in every south sea pearl.

“Atis” is a tribute to my fellow sisters from the Panay islands. Their skill in hunting is unparalleled and so are their beauty, brain, and soul.

“Feathered” highlights the role of women even way back pre-colonial times. Women play roles of authority and leadership like this chieftain with a feathered headdress.

“Symmetry” in art is what the Yakans are known for. I sense their deep desire for constant balance and direction especially in a chaotic world like ours.

“Beads” is a manifestation of how we value our well-being. These layered beaded necklaces, also known as “bali-og”, ward off evil and preserve the good.
